Kesey’s Jail Journal: Cut the Motherfucker Loose by Ken Kesey

Kesey is the person who wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which I read back in, what, middle school I guess. I liked it a lot at the time especially because it was the first book that made me realize people write fiction about their own lives sometimes.

I requested this book because it’s a jail journal. I wanted to see what others looked like. This was is visually interesting, but I wasn’t totally captivated by the narrative. It was a lot of dialogue. The drawings were definitely the best parts.

My favorite line is: “allow me to make one thing clear before we continue our conversation… I’ll lie to you” (1). It was also cool to see him write about showing the journal to someone.
