I love Imani Perry’s writing so much because she’s not afraid to bend genres. This is a book that is mostly a biography, but it’s done in an academic and personal way. It covers the life and death of Lorraine Hansberry (wrote A Raisin in the Sun) and focuses a lot on her written work and political life/beliefs. Best part was probably the stuff about her relationships with James Baldwin and Nina Simone.
P.S. I have a book out that’s about dating as a single mother. It’s available here and here and in person if you’re located near me in New Jersey.
