The first resident to test positive at Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Illinois was arrested on March 30. The 16-year-old was quarantined upon arrest, which is the current policy. Then, over the weekend, he had the fever and coughing and everything. He’s still quarantined and will be back in population most likely on the 18th.
Though people are still being arrested, 190 teenagers were released from that same detention center last month due to Coronavirus. Their daily population reduced from 210 to 168, but even that doesn’t seem significant enough, especially because of the recent outbreak at the adult facility. Cook County Jail now has one of the highest rates of coronavirus infection per capita in the country.
