This is a Haitian novel that’s about sex. Older women from the US/England sleeping with teenage boys in Haitian resorts, a young woman reluctantly in love with a guy who has community dick (he’s the most consistent character in the book), another guy pursuing a woman sexually to distract her from harassing his parents who work at her family’s estate. All wild situations like those. The book reads like messy, interconnected short stories where each of the relationships are about money and power and obsession.
“We’re neither French living in America nor Africans living in exile. We’re Haitians, know what I’m saying?… No, there’s no way you could understand. Maybe you’ll catch on eventually…”
