This book really helped me get back into Spanish. Coming into it, I knew some of the basic stuff and how to pronounce words, but I didn’t have the confidence to really read or speak Spanish out loud. Margarita Madrigal tells you early on to just dive in–a lot of Spanish words look like English words, so use that to your advantage. Trying reading, writing, and speaking even if you don’t know everything. Beyond all the tenses and vocabulary, the other thing the book gives you is an understanding of the Spanish sentence structure. Knowing where things go makes the rest of it a lot easier.

Best line: “Try to guess the meaning of every Spanish word you encounter. Make up words and sentences. In other words, let go.”
