Starr es una chica del barrio pero ella va a escuela blanca. Y un noche, ella esta es a una fiesta y ve a su amigo Khalil de su barrio. Ellos se relajan y cosas pero en el camino a casa, la policía los detuvo. Ello no hizo nada pero las policías le disparó Khalil en la calle. Starr es la única testigo y en la novela ella está tratando de averiguar cómo hablar por él—a sus amigos, a la policía, al gran jurado, en la calle.

Me gusta la complicado familia cosas y la humanización de los traficantes de drogas, pero no me gusta la hipocresía—ellos saben que la policía es violenta y hablar con la policía no ayuda, ¿pero arrestar al hombre malo al final es bueno? Y dos o tres personas en el libro dicen “no todos son policías son malo.” Yo no se. La mejor parte fue cuando monstró cuán asustado estaba Starr de que la policía lo detuvieran otra vez. Que el miedo es real.

Starr is a girl from the hood but she goes to a white school. And one night, she’s at a party and sees a friend Khalil from her area. They chill and stuff but on the ride home, the police pulled them over. He didn’t do anything but the police kill Khalil in the street. Starr is the only witness and in the novel she is trying to figure out how to speak for him–with her friends, with the police, with the grand jury, in the street.

I like the complicated family stuff and the humanization of drug dealers, but I don’t like the hypocrisy–they know the police are violent and talking to the police doesn’t help, but arresting the bad guy at the end is good? And two or three people in the book say “no all police are bad.” I don’t know. The best part was when it showed how scared Starr was of getting pulled over again. That fear is real.
