First off, excellent cover art. And E’mon Lauren has a great voice. She does traditional poetic repetition and she goes stream of consciousness, but the sound is young and internet-y. The collection itself is really about existing in a body in this world, specifically Chicago. Skin and hair and touching and looking and watching. My favorite pieces are “Micros and Aggression,” “A Window-Shopping-Ass-N—–,” and “the Womb’s Prayer.” Commando is good, quick book of poems.
Best line:
“had my homie crack my card for bail money. wrote a thesis on why you got me fucked up. earned commission on the hands you can catch but can’t hold.”
